Biography

Alexander Azukar (Santiago de Chile, 1986), an environment designer by profession and self-taught in art. Prolific painter and graffiti artist, he has left his mark in Peru, Mexico, Brazil, China, Switzerland, France, Japan, China, Denmark among other countries.

In his first visual works, his participation in the exhibition "Dialogos de Emancipacion” (Dialogues of Emancipation) (2012) stands out, at the Galeria Metropolitana, together with international artists such as Regina Jose Galindo, Joshua Okon, Francisco Papasfritas, among others. His work consisted in building and living for a few days in a “chara” (provisional habitat of Chilean prisons), in which he created weapons and spell liquors, exploring the interface between his work and personal context.

Later he was invited to Cuba to show his work at the Casa de las Américas, within the framework of the exhibition "Images of Chile (2013)", making a selection of photographic records of works together with 23 other national artists. In the same year, he stood out as the winner of "Pintacanes 2013", an itinerant production initiative as a social critic, by Bernardo Oyarzún, where his work was openly exhibited to the public at La Pintana.

After a self-exile from galleries, in 2017 he returns with his first individual exhibition “La luz de lo incorregible” (The light of the incorrigible), at Galeria Cima, where he set out to generate critical awareness about the use and abuse of images in public space, reaching a large audience of more than a thousand visits in just four days.

In 2019 he was summoned by 193GALLERY, located in the heart of the Le Marais neighborhood in Paris, to participate in a collective exhibition of contemporary Chilean art, along with Ivan Navarro, one of the most influential Chilean artists of the 21st century, plus other emerging artists from an explosive scene, such as Javier Toro Blum, Valentina Rato and others. At the same time, he presented his work at the renowned urban art fair "Urban Art Faire 2019", at Carré du Temple.

In August 2019, he was invited to Kaohsiung Province in Taiwan, by ARCADEGALLERY to paint a mural and participate in the group exhibition "From Here to There" together with some of the local and world most remarkable street artists.

Upon his return, he quickly settled in Lima, Peru, where he held a residence and personal exhibition at TOKIO GALLERIA, entitled “Medios de supervivencia, transporte y navegación para una posible destrucción” (Means of survival, transportation and navigation for their possible destruction), where he developed pieces of great symbolic value, such as a "float hundred dollars" or "hundred grams of sugar", x-rays that show his stomach full of sugar ovoids.

Later, in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, he carried out a project for a new HUB hotel in Santiago de Chile, located within Land Art, in an installation of neon sculptures that covers the entire façade of the hotel building.

In 2021 he signed a contract with Walt Disney for the sale of a work to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the animation studio Pixar, all this in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. Already in 2022 the world begins to return to normality and Azukar inaugurated his year with a two-person exhibition in Cuba (Havana), in the prestigious TALLER GORRIA gallery, curated by Jorge Pere and entitled "Una dulce innocencia" (A sweet innocence). Later he traveled as a guest to paint a mural at the Spring Beast festival in Sweden (Stockolmo). In July he traveled to Argentina (Buenos Aires) to participate in the Post Pandemic group show at the Matta Cultural Center, where he presented his work "La Persistencia de la Luz" (The persistence of light), which was very well received by the public, obtaining a publication in the prestigious local newspaper Clarín.
